"Ministry in diversity."
Vol. 2 No. 2 (2026)Jurnal Igreja
invites scholars, practitioners, and religious leaders to contribute to a forthcoming special issue exploring the multifaceted dynamics of "Ministry in Diversity". In an increasingly pluralistic world, where religious, cultural, ethnic, gender, and socioeconomic differences intersect daily, the practice of ministry faces both profound opportunities and significant challenges. This issue seeks to examine how ministerial practices are adapting, innovating, and engaging within these diverse contexts to foster inclusive, equitable, and harmonious communities. We are particularly interested in research that moves beyond theoretical discussions to offer evidence-based strategies, practical applications, and critical reflections on the realities of ministry in diverse settings. This special issue aims to provide valuable insights for theological education, pastoral leadership, and community engagement. Topics of interest for this special issue include, but are not limited to, the following:- Interfaith and Intracultural Dialogue: Strategies and practical examples of dialogue across different religious boundaries and cultural backgrounds.
- Inclusive Leadership Models: Developing and implementing collegial and exemplary leadership models in diverse congregational or organizational settings. (others relevant topics are welcome too)

Menghadirkan Kasih Bapa di Tengah Kemajemukan Urban.
Vol. 2 No. 1 (2025)Tema Edisi Vol. 2, No. 1 (2025): "Menghadirkan Kasih Bapa di Tengah Kemajemukan Urban."

Pentecostal-Charismatic urban ministry
Vol. 1 No. 2 (2025)Editorial
Navigating Pentecostal-Charismatic Urban MinistryShalom aleikhem,
The rapid global expansion of Pentecostal and Charismatic Christianity, particularly within burgeoning urban centers, presents a compelling and complex field for theological inquiry. As this new issue of our journal explores "Pentecostal-Charismatic Urban Ministry," we are prompted to delve into the unique theological frameworks, practical innovations, and inherent challenges that define this dynamic expression of faith in the contemporary city.
Pentecostal-Charismatic movements, often characterized by their emphasis on the experiential dimension of faith, the immediacy of the Holy Spirit's presence, and the expectation of supernatural intervention, have found fertile ground in urban environments. From vibrant large churches in prominent public spaces to small, community-focused fellowships in underserved neighborhoods, their footprint in cities is undeniable. This growth is fueled by an appeal to authenticity, a focus on personal transformation, and a belief in the Spirit's power to address real-world problems – from individual struggles to systemic social issues.
Theologically, Pentecostal-Charismatic urban ministry often prioritizes a holistic understanding of salvation, extending beyond individual conversion to encompass physical healing, deliverance from oppression, and socio-economic uplift. This finds expression in fervent corporate prayer and increasingly, in tangible social action projects addressing poverty, addiction, and community development. The adaptability and entrepreneurial spirit of many Pentecostal-Charismatic churches have allowed them to respond swiftly to the diverse needs of urban populations, fostering a sense of belonging and hope amidst the complexities of city life.
However, this rapid growth and emphasis on experience also bring forth crucial theological and practical considerations. Questions arise regarding the articulation of doctrine, the potential for individualistic interpretations of faith, the theological underpinnings of prosperity teachings, and the challenges of leadership succession and accountability within often decentralized structures. Furthermore, the tension between maintaining spiritual distinctiveness and engaging meaningfully with the pluralistic urban landscape requires ongoing theological reflection.
This issue, therefore, invites a robust conversation. How can Pentecostal-Charismatic urban ministry harness its inherent dynamism for sustainable, biblically-rooted engagement with the city? What theological resources can be further developed to navigate the complexities of urban social ethics, interfaith relations, and responsible community leadership? By critically examining the theological foundations, lived practices, and societal impact of Pentecostal-Charismatic urban ministry, we aim to contribute to a deeper understanding of this influential force in global Christianity and its ongoing shaping of urban spiritual landscapes.
