Abstract
In investigating the historical basis, educators are directed to consider
aspects of education that emphasize change and various possibilities at
different times and places and prove the points of continuity. Christian
education has a long history from the time of Judaism (OT) to the millennial era. Each era has its own characteristics with its advantages and disadvantages. In the Hebrew era until the time of Jesus, the apostles and even today, the pattern of education is not much different, namely
emphasizing the role of parents and the church: Bible teachers are quite
thick in shaping the lives and faith of children. The pattern of Christian
Education from Deuteronomy 6:4-9 is preserved, nurtured and passed on
from generation to generation. From this study it was found that houses
and places of worship became centers of Christian education. And every
epoch has its golden period and there is also a dark period. The Age of
Hebrews, Jesus, the early Church and the Reformation was the zenith of
Christian education. The dark ages were the Middle Ages and the
Renaissance. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive
analysis approach and literature study. The results of this study provide an
understanding of the historical basis of Christian education that can be
used as a reference for contemporary Christian education.
