Discussions concerning the doctrine of “free will” has long been a central
and debated topic in Christian theology, especially in relation to salvation.
This study aims to analyze the concept of free will from a theological
perspective by examining the views of key figures such as St. Augustine,
John Calvin, Arminius, and Martin Luther. Using a qualitative approach
through literature study, this research explores how each theological
tradition understands the relationship between divine sovereignty and
human responsibility. The findings show that although there are significant
differences among these perspectives, all agree that human salvation
cannot be separated from divine grace. Free will, therefore, is not an
absolute autonomy but is closely related to God's work in human life.
