Abstract

Children with intellectual disability are a category of children with special
needs. They are children who have impaired intellectual functioning that
impacts on mental development. They have impairments in brain function
that cause limitations in almost all aspects of their lives. In addition,
children who experience intellectual disability also have limitations in
development. They have limitations in managing emotions, have
difficulties in interacting, and face difficulties in understanding themselves
and the environment around them. The purpose of this study is to help
children with disabilities to understand Christian Religious Education
learning and its values. The method used in this article is qualitative with a
library research approach, which involves collecting data by understanding
and studying the theories contained in various literatures relevant to the
research conducted. Library research is data collection done by looking for
sources of various types, such as books, journals, and previous research.
The present article discusses the methods used by Christian Religious
Education teachers in teaching children with intellectual disabilities. In this
approach, teachers pay attention to the learning needs of children with
disabilities by using appropriate strategies to facilitate their learning. These
methods include VAKT, Direct Introduction, Cooperative Learning and
Peer Tutoring.
